Jugendstil pewter lidded biscuit jar by Osiris-Isis,
1902-1903.
The body shows a 2 stepped structure with a lineal faceted lower
part and the upper side with mistletoe branches and stylized
Jugendstil lines. The round foot is applied.
The cover shows again the mistletoe branches growing from the
centre to the sides. A special mention to the knob made of 2
leaves and 2 fruits.
The handle is showing a waved stylized form.
The complete piece is made of cast pewter and patinated.
There are several legends about mistletoe and it’s meanings,
but today is used normally as Christmas decoration, protector
against fires at home besides the legend about "eternal
love".

OSIRIS
The OSIRIS factory was founded in 1899 by Friedich August Scherf
( 1839 -1922) and his son Walter Scherf (1875 –1909) under
the name “ Metallwarenfabrik Fur Kleinkunst Walter Scherf
& co" in Nürnberg.
From 1899 until 1909 the factory produced 1300 items. In 1902
the firm developed a new sort of pewter the “ISIS”
metal.
The firm worked with great designers such as: Peter Behrens,
Joseph Maria Olbrich, Josef Hoffman, Friedrich Adler, Bruno
Paul, Josef Wackerle, Hermann Gradl, Hermann Friling, Lorenz
Hofelich, Richard Riemerschmid and Walter Scherf, owner and
creator of most of the designs.
They received several important prizes: Turin (1902), Gold medal
of Konig-Ludwig (1902), ST Petersburg (1903/1904), St. Louis,
USA (1904), Cape Town South Africa (1904/1905), Chistchurch
New Zealand (1906/1907) and more.
In the year 1906 they changed the name OSIRIS to “ISIS
Werke Gmbh. kunstgewerblicher Erzeugnisse”
Because a bad management the firm was almost bankrupt and in
1909 with the death of Walter Scherf the company disappeared.

Galletero Jugendstil, Osiris.
Galletero de estaño con tapa, jugendstil,
Osiris-Isis, 1902-1903.
El cuerpo presenta una estructura en dos pisos, con la parte
de abajo faceteada y la superior con ramas de muérdago
y líneas Jugendstil estilizadas. El pie redondo está
aplicado.
La tapa nos muestra de nuevo las ramas de muérdago creciendo
desde el centro hacia los bordes. Merece una mención
especial el pomo hecho con 2 hojas y dos frutos.
El asa presenta una forma ondulada y estilizada.
Toda la pieza esta realizada en estaño fundido y patinado.
Existen muchas leyenda acerca del muérdago y su significado,
pero hoy en día se utiliza normalmente como adorno navideño,
protección contra el fuego en las casas además
de la leyenda acerca del "amor eterno".

OSIRIS
La factoría OSIRIS, fue fundada en 1899 por Friedich
August Scherf ( 1839-1922) y su hijo Walter Scherf (1875 –1909)
con el nombre “ Metallwarenfabrik Fur Kleinkunst Walter
Scherf & co" en Nürnberg.
Desde 1899 hasta 1909 produjeron 1300 artículos. En 1902
la firma desarrolló una nueva clase de estaño,
el metal “ISIS”.
La firma trabajó con grandes diseñadores como;
Peter Behrens, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Josef Hoffman, Friedrich
Adler, Bruno Paul, Josef Wackerle, Hermann Gradl, Hermann Friling,
Lorenz Hofelich, Richard Riemersmid y Walter Scherf, dueño
y creador de la mayoría de los diseños.
Recibieron numerosos premios; Turin (1902), Medalla de oro de
Konig-Ludwig (1902), ST Petersburg (1903/1904), St. Louis, USA
(1904), Cape town, Sud Africa (1904/1905), Chistchurch New Zealand
(1906/1907) y otros más.
En el año 1906 cambiaron el nombre OSIRIS a “ISIS
Werke Gmbh. kunstgewerblicher Erzeugnisse”.
Por culpa de una mala administración la firma llegó
prácticamente a la quiebra y en 1909 con la muerte de
Walter Scherf, la compañía desapareció.
