This furniture, called “Vertiko” in
German can be described as a high sideboard. It is made out
of walnut (massive and veneered) and combines the geometrical
art nouveau with floral forms in parts of the decoration and
the top.
Surprisingly the upper part with the mirror has survived the
times and the tries to modernize furniture. Lots of these furnitures
got also painted, mostly in white already during the twenties
and thirties of the last century.
The top can be disassembled for transport by unscrewing only
two joints.
After opening the two doors the interior shows four levels with
three floors that can be removed. The inside is very clean.
The escutcheons are the original ones. The lock of the door
was missing, we replaced it by one out of an old stock we bought.
The drawer over the doors runs smooth and the lock closes perfect,
here the original was still in place.
This item came from an estate near Berlin/Germany and the date
of construction will be around 1900 to 1905.
During the restoration an attack of woodworm was eradicated
and some of the feet got repaired. Better to save the original
parts than to replace them with new ones that will never really
look well.
The surface got a semi-brilliant french polish that comes near
to the original finish.
As usual the surface got cleaned before which does never mean
sanded. Sanding just destroys the patina of the wood and the
character of the furniture.

Vertiko Jugendstil.
Este es un Vertiko (aparador vertical) de nogal
(mazizo y chapado) que combina el estilo geométrico con
las formas florales en partes de la decoración del copete.
Sorprendentemente está completo, y conserva la parte
superior con el espejo original, ya que la mayoría de
ellos la han perdido al intentar “modernizarlos”
según iban cambiando las modas en decoración.
Muchos de estos muebles fueron también pintados, la mayoría
en blanco, durante los años 20 y 30.
La parte superior puede ser desmontada para el transporte simplemente
soltando los tornillos de las 2 juntas.
Esta distribuido en un cajón con cerradura y dos puertas
que dan acceso al interior distribuido en 4 niveles con 3 estantes.
El interior esta muy limpio.
Las bocallaves son originales y una de las cerraduras, la de
la puerta faltaba, por lo que se ha colocado otra pero también
de la época.
El cajón sobre las puertas corre suavemente y la cerradura
cierra perfectamente, en este caso conserva la original.
Proviene de una antigua villa en las afueras de Berlín,
Alemania, y es de hacia 1900-1905.
Durante la restauración se eliminó un ataque de
carcomas en las patas que se ha eliminado y saneado para asegurar
la consistencia sin cambiarlas por otras nuevas que al fin y
al cabo nunca quedan bien del todo.
La superficie ha recibido un acabado a goma laca semi brillante
muy parecido al acabado original.
Como siempre, la superficie se ha limpiado antes, lo que nunca
significa lijada. La lija destruye la pátina de la madera
y el carácter del mueble.
