Very rare Art Nouveau tray by Paul Guth,
Nancy, France around 1907.
It is made of a combination of different precious and fruitwoods.
The central scene is depicting a marquetry winter landscape
with a house, a tree, a way and the forest in the background.
The landscape frame is decorated with mistletoe branches and
fruits also in marquetry work.
In the lower left corner we can see the signature “Guth”.
The sides are harmoniously curved forming the handles.
GUTH Paul:
Was bon in París and was a painter and designer for applied
arts. In 1907 he created a studio for artistic small furniture
in Nancy. His works are belonging clearly to the “Ecole
de Nancy” style. Between 1883 and 1921 took part on the
exhibitions of the “Salon de la Société
de Artistes Francais”.
His works are often mistakenly attributed to Emile Gallé,
specially the ones without signature and, even more often, his
signature is “Modified” to “Gallé”.
Guth works are in the same quality level of Gallé or
Majorelle, but his production was shorter and consequently much
more rare. You can find hundreds of Gallé each year being
sold, but very few Guth on the market.
If you want to have a piece really outstanding
in your collection, you should not miss this one.

Muy rara bandeja Art Nouveau de Paul Guth,
Nancy, Francia hacia 1907.
Está realizada en una combinación de maderas nobles
y frutales. La escena central representa un paisaje invernal
en marquetería con una casa, un árbol, un camino
y el bosque al fondo.
El marco del paisaje está decorado con ramas y frutos
de muérdago también de marquetería.
En la esquina inferior izquierda podemos ver la firma “Guth”.
Los laterales están curvados armoniosamente formando
las asas.
GUTH Paul:
Nació en París y fue un pintor y diseñador
de artes aplicadas. En 1907 creó un estudio de pequeño
mobiliario artístico en Nancy. Sus trabajos pertenecen
claramente al estilo de la “Ecole de Nancy”.
Entre 1883 y 1921 tomó parte de las exhibiciones del
“Salon de la Société de Artistes Francais”.
Sus trabajos son a menudo atribuidos erróneamente a Emile
Gallé, especialmente los que no tienen firma, y todavía
más a menudo su firma es “modificada” como
Gallé.
Los trabajos de Guth son del mismo nivel cualitativo que los
de Gallé o Majorelle, pero su producción fue mucho
menos abundante y por lo tanto más rara. Se pueden encontrar
cientos de Gallé a la venta cada año, pero muy
pocos Guth en el mercado.
Si usted desea tener una pieza realmente
excepcional en su colección, no debería
dejar pasar esta.
